Civil War in the Southwest - March 10, 2007

Photos by Elliott Meister

The OPMC had a drive-out to attend the annual re-enactment of Civil War battles fought in the States of Arizona and New Mexico.  Eight cars from the club participated in the drive-out. This is an annual major event in the field of Civil War battle reenactments and was a great opportunity for Civil War buffs and casually interested individuals to see it up close.   The location of the re-enactment was at Picacho Peak State Park, the actual site of one of the three southwest Civil War battles.

The event included re-enactment of three different Civil War battles fought in Arizona and New Mexico, and many related activities, demonstrations, and theatrical events. Since many people only know of the battles that were fought in the eastern states, this desert battle becomes another exciting Civil War history lesson.  Pictures from the event are available at the bottom of this page.

Hal and Carol Feldman lead the event.
