Sunday April 20, 2008
This event was be led by Joe and Judy Hite and consisted of a drive through Arivaca on the wonderfully curvy
and scenic Arivaca Road off I-19 at Amado and on to the historic
Rancho de la Osa near Sasabe for a very special gourmet lunch before
driving back to Tucson.

About the Ranch.
Judy led a great drive out to Rancho de la Osa. We had 27 club members
making the drive on Arivaca Rd., a perfect road for Miatas, and the day
was beautiful. Arrived on time for a visit to the Cantina at Rancho de
la Osa which was built in 1830. After a drink (or 2) we assembled in the
dinning room for an absolutely fantastic lunch and desert.
The chef at the Ranch is from the the Four
Seasons in New Orleans. After lunch a very informative history of this
guest ranch was presented by our host, Richard Schultz. This former
working ranch dates all the way back to 1725. Movies have been filmed
here, and many famous guests (including Lady Bird Johnson, Eleanor
Roosevelt, Supreme Court Justice Wm. Douglas, Zane Gray, Joan Crawford,
the Norwegian Trade Council, President Lyndon Johnson, President
Franklin Roosevelt) have enjoyed Ranch hospitality here. Chico's
Catalogue did a lay out here, and the Marshall doctrine was drafted here
in 1948. The Maxwell Document of WW 2 was also drafted at this
ranch. John Wayne always stayed in room 10, and Tom Mix and
Ceaser Romero used room 2 (but not at the same time).
Many thanks to Judy Hite for organizing this wonderful
club event.
